PaleoFX13: Day 3 – Austin, Texas (partial) & Home Sweet Home California
Happy Easter!
This is my last recap for PaleoFX13. If you missed it here’s the Prelude, Day 1 and Day 2!
So I woke up late..again! Even later than yesterday! I was such a dummy. I set the alarm at 7:30am but I forgot to change the day to Sunday instead of Wednesday. *face palm* Anyway, fear not I actually managed to get there on time plus prior going, I managed to cook the remaining cauliflower so I could let it cool down before I pack them into plastic tupperware.
I had to scratch my plan to listen to Chris Kresser’s presentation prior my Bootycamp movement session with Clifton Harski as I didn’t have enough time to go upstairs.
Throughout the 1 hour session, we did a lot of mobility works for hips and glutes. Sorry I didn’t have any pictures since I was in the middle of the session and I had nobody to help me taking pictures. In the glance, you might think we were doing some type of yoga/dance movements as we did glute bridge, downward dog and we also did lunges (weighted/unweighted), curtsey lunge, RKC plank, side plank hold just to name a few as I remember on top of my head.
In the end, we did some kettlebell swing. I was in a mood of getting some metabolic workout on my own so I started to swing 25lbs kettlebell, which felt light for me. He saw me did that and made me demonstrated my kettlebell swing. I am so happy that he liked the way I swing and even told me my swing was pretty good and solid and I could actually be able to swing heavier. That was my highlight of the day 🙂
After the session, I didn’t have much time since I had to check out from the hotel around noon and the airport shuttle will come and pick me up around 1pm. My flight was in the late afternoon so without much further, I just had to walked back to the hotel even though the event was still going on until 5pm.
On my way out, I got a chance to take more pictures for Darryl Edward’s Primal Moves session so you could get some ideas how the sessions looked like.
After seeing those, I couldn’t help myself to do my own HIIT sprinting on this field!
If you think those hip/glute drills didn’t do a thing, you are wrong. I already started to feel those on my thighs, butt and quads. But at the same time I applied the similar principle while sprinting by trying to squeeze my glute and drove the force from there while sprinting. Trust me, it helped A LOT and it made a lot of difference. My quads weren’t so taxed!
After I got back to the hotel, I only had about half hour before the check out time so I showered and packed all of my stuff.
I couldn’t help myself to throw away these cooked sweet potatoes (Sorry it looked like a vomit!). Guess what, this sweet potatoes almost got confiscated by TSA but luckily she declared that since it was still frozen, she let it pass. (It wasn’t even a liquid to begin with -DOH!)
After I packed all of my stuff and checking to make sure I didn’t leave anything behind in the room, I checked out and waited in the lobby for the shuttle to come. While waiting, I got hungry so I ate part of my food.
Quickly I realized I didn’t have anymore fat/protein meal for my next meal before arriving Long Beach. My original plan was to get some BBQ meat from Salt Lick BBQ at Austin airport. Just in case that I didn’t blow up ultra low carb day, I posted a question on PaleoFx Facebook group page for any meal recommendations at Salt Lick BBQ and good thing I did!! None of the meals are actually Paleo compliant because even the dry rub seasonings has brown sugar in there!! BUMMER!
People were kind enough to recommend some places such as 24Diner, Live Oak BBQ and Quality Seafood Market but since I didn’t have the luxury to have my own ride, I guess I just had to pass on all of those and went across the street to get my meal.
I ordered grilled chicken sandwich (hold the bun and mayo) and added an extra grilled chicken breast on the side. Paired up with the last portion of my cooked green cauliflower and cauliflower greens, I had a perfect lunch on the plane!
Apparently JetBlue was having a technical difficulties on their paid movies so the flight attendant made the movies FOR FREE! After I finished my meal, I watched UP then switched over to regular cable TV and watch bits parts of Spiderman (Toby Maguire) and the beginning part of The Mummy.
Before I knew it, my flight has arrived in Long Beach!
It was nice to be back home and seeing my hubby again. He was so nice to whip up our dinner while I unpacked, showered and did part of my laundry.
Home Sweet Home California!
Final thoughts:
Overall I enjoyed my time at the event, especially on the 2nd and 3rd day. The part that I enjoyed the most were the movement sessions and the fitness/exercise talks. Don’t get me wrong, nutrition/health talks are great as well but sometimes they are just way too academic to me to comprehend and I could easily got lost during the talk. My mind was just blanking out until they started to talk something less science.
Also I am so glad that I could cook my own and didn’t spend much money on food. People might think I am crazy and should just enjoy the food around while I was out of town. But seriously, after being on Carb Nite Solution and being ultra low carb, I think I rather stick to clean eating rather than trying to navigate myself when ordering food from restaurants which 99.99% will most likely cook in vegetable oils (yuck!). Sure all I ate mostly were just ground beef and scrambled eggs with occasional string cheese and raw macadamia nuts, but those taste great and filled me up.
Friends, I hope you enjoy my PaleoFX13 recaps and next year if they have it in Austin again, I might consider going.
Have a great Easter Sunday!
