The First Week
Hello friends! How’s your week been going? Miss me yet??
Well some of you already knew that this week is my first week at my new job and after being out from work for a little while, it was quite hectic in terms of time management etc. Not to mention my new workplace has a much longer commute.
So to sum it up, I got up at 4:30 am and did some workout if I felt I had enough rest (or if I wasn’t going to workout, I’ll sleep until around 5 am), shower and I had a little snack like a small piece of yam/sweet potato to keep my hunger at bay since I got up very early before I left the house around 6:15am. After stuck in the traffic for at least 1 hour, I got to the office around 7:30-7:40am, ate my breakfast while working, got out around 5:40pm and arrived back at home around 7-7:30pm (depend how bad the traffic was). By the time I got home, not much to do except had a dinner, showered and went straight to bed by 9pm the latest (earlier would be ideal). Rinse and repeat.
One good thing about this workplace, the working hour is flexible, meaning you choose you own working hour as long as you are in the office between 10:30am-4:30pm Monday to Thursday. Friday is half day (4 hour) and we have a choice to work from home, which IS GREAT! So why don’t you come a bit later you asked. Well let’s just say I prefer coming in early and leave early. I am not a fan of working late hours as much. Besides it’s not like my commute would have less traffic at the later hour, in fact it’s even worse.
Anyway, I drove the first 2 days, and took public transportation for the last 2 and I’ve decided I’ll take public transportation to work from now on. It’s less stressful PLUS I got to move my body more (walking, climbing stairs, sprinting while carrying a 15lbs backpack). So even though I didn’t get a chance to workout, I still get a good amount of exercise from those 😀
Ok enough rambling let’s get on the good stuff..FOOD! Aren’t you itching to know how’s my eats?
Monday
NO WORKOUT – My first day driving in the traffic left me restless the night before so didn’t get enough sleep.
Breakfast (at home) – Saute Sprouts chicken sausage with mixed squashes and purple yam
Second breakfast (at work)- hardboiled eggs, Applegate Black Forest Ham, cooked kabocha squash and some purple yam – this ended up became my lunch since I wasn’t hungry in the morning at work.
Plus I snacked on macadamia nuts and a homegrown apple from C. Don’t you love my tiny lunch bag? Everything fits in there (except the macadamia nuts)
Packed lunch – leftover Autumn All-in-One Meal Loaf with steamed veggies and a small container of cherry tomatoes – this ended up as my dinner
Tuesday
A short workout from Bodyrock.tv – I slept a bit better than the day before.
Post WO snack – I gobbled up a small piece of purple yam
Breakfast (at work) – Hardboiled eggs, purple yam and Applegate Black Forest Ham
Lunch – Baked Chicken Leg with steamed veggies and minced beef – all prepared by Chef Hubby K 😀
Snacks – same as yesterday (small container of cherry tomatoes and an apple)
Dinner – Hubby K splurged a little. He bought some fish fillet and shrimps and made these!
I LOVE it when someone already prepared food after I got home from a long day at work and traffic. 😀
Wednesday
NO WORKOUT. Stupid neighbors were SO LOUD that I had hard time going to sleep! Good thing today I took the train and bus so it took off the stress a bit from me.
Breakfast – Cut up Japanese yam, shredded chicken meat from the baked chicken
Lunch – leftovers from the dinner – baked chicken leg, shrimp, fish and veggies
Snack – mixed seedless grapes (and undocumented amount of macadamia nuts – I think I need to stop this!)
Dinner – Hubby K made these yummy Egg Pizzas (as I called them) – topping: minced beef, chopped carrots and cauliflower (I thought those were onions!)
Plus steamed spinach and cauliflower
Thursday
Bodyrock.tv Workout – Had a quick post WO bite of a piece of purple yam.
Breakfast – Hardboiled eggs, purple yam, steamed cauliflower and spinach
Lunch – whatever left overs from dinner
Snacks – some grapes and an avocado (I just scooped it up from the shell with spoon 😀 – funny how my colleague who’s sitting next to me was having a jello instead).
Dinner – Baked chicken breasts cooked with similar way as the fish fillet as Hubby K said. Plus veggies.
Today (Friday)
A hard workout (at least to me) from Bodyrock.tv.
Post WO meal/breakfast – hardboiled eggs, purple yam and steamed broccoli
And I was working for a good chunk of 4 hour using the brand new Macbook Pro, which is also my workstation at work. Each employee was given a Macbook Pro which he/she can take home.
Hubby K is such an understanding husband that he left me alone while I was working. Instead he prepared our lunch, saute chicken breasts and steamed veggies. I added sliced of whole avocado to my plate.
For dinner, I made tomato soup with fish cake and taught Hubby K how to made the famous Roasted Curried Cauliflower.
But Hubby K himself cooked some chicken meat with coconut amino which turned out great btw.
Yay, my first week at work wasn’t too bad actually, just need to get used to the timing and early morning workout. To be honest, I was so happy that I pre-cooked some of quick grabs such as sweet potatoes and hard boiled eggs because those two came in very very hand in a pinch! As you can see, I might not be able to update as regularly as before but I’ll try to update at least 2-3 times a week. Consistency is a key to keep readers around, right? 😀
If you have a choice, Would you come in early for work so you could leave early or would you rather sleep in and work later hours?
Have a great weekend everyone!!

Food looks delicious as always! 😀
Great your knew job leaves you some flexibility! Well, I’m not an early bird at all, so I’d totally make use of the 10:30 starting point. 😀 I’d rather work until late.
Hey girl!
Gosh it’s been forever since I’ve visited your blog! (Soryy!!!) Anywho, CONGRATS on getting a job! Oh my gosh, it’s been SO tough. I’ve been frantically searching since I graduated in June, and I have had zero luck. I have a weird major – literary journalism – so I’m not sure if that may have contributed (probably).
I landed some after school tutoring jobs, but they didn’t even last because I was just subbing…so I think my job hunting ego took a blow when I was let go from those.
Ugh.I feel like going back to school right now. And I would if I had the money or knew what for……..=/
What was your major? Any job hunting tips? I’d love to talk to you about it! I feel so lost haha
Thanks! I was in design major and trust me it’s pretty competitive out there. My hub still hasn’t found any yet as I wrote this. The only thing he’s gonna do now at least learn new skills such as web stuff since that’s what mostly employers are searching for. I’m not quite familiar with literary journalism but I’d suggest just search around for any freelance writing job probably or even volunteering just to get some experience? I know it’s hard for newly graduate student to land even an entry job, which still requires you to have at least an experience. Good luck!
Wow great update thanks.
mmm your breakfasts look divine! way to go on your first week! i find that i’m very very tired for the first month or two starting a new position and then i find my groove and settle in. i like to work early as well, i hate leaving work after 5pm unless i absolutely must finish something.
This food looks great! You’ve given me some ideas of new things to try, thank you!
