Whole30: Day 5 – A Take Out
Although I didn’t go to bed as early as I wanted to be, I think I still got some good night sleep until the hot morning sun shined thru our room window and woke me up. Summer definitely the easiest time for me to get up at 7 am regardless what time I went to sleep the night before. I am a person who can’t go to sleep when it’s hot and bright.
I mentioned that I had somewhere important to go today…well Fit Daffy got it almost right, though it wasn’t really a job interview, but more like an interview with a staffing agency. Hopefully they could find my potential employer and I heard this particular one is pretty good. We’ll see.
Since I know I wouldn’t have much time in the morning to workout, I did a short one and did some quick prepping for breakfast/post workout meal: fried egg seasoned with Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute and Red Boat Fish Sauce, chopped half baked sweet potato and Roasted Broccoli seasoned with salt, pepper and avocado oil.
Hubby K was nice enough to give me a ride to Downtown Miracle Mile LA for the interview, because parking was ridiculously EXPENSIVE there! The whole process took about 30-45 minutes long. Basically the agent just went through with my resume, asking details on my skills, experiences and what I’m looking for etc. And I almost forgot to bring my jacket back! Good thing I haven’t left the building yet!
For lunch, I was planning to go to Baja Fresh Mexican Grill or The Counter Burger, which located just across the street from the agency. However, since parking was such a bitch and we both know that area is an expensive area plus Brother A might not have anything edible for lunch, we decided to drive back home and stopped by at Chipotle to pick up our lunch.
The boys got the burritos (chicken for Brother A, steak for Hubby K) and I got myself 2 sides of carnitas and 1 side of guacamole.
I like how transparent Chipotle with all their food ingredients so it’s clearly stated all their meat (except the carnitas) and veggies are cooked in soybean oil, so it’s pretty easy to navigate when I’m currently on a strict Paleo Whole30 challenge.
But dang, how sad my portion was and it was actually $1 more than the burritos? Gosh, it’s sad enough that Paleo diet is currently ranked as the worst diet for weight loss according to US News and World Report “Best Diets.” Apparently, Paleo got bad reputation because cutting out an entire food group (in this case grains and dairy) is not healthy in a long term. What they missed was that there are a lot of researches show how grains affecting human’s digestive system in various way. This is a more reason to all of us, “cave people” need to spread out more about this Paleo.
Anyway, back to my lunch. After I took out the carnitas and guacamole on the plate, spread them out and added some Roasted Broccoli from this morning, the portion didn’t look that bad!
It was a warm and humid afternoon so I had a small bowl of strawberries (finally done!) as afternoon snacks!
A hot day just didn’t give me a desire to spend too much time in the kitchen so I just baked the rest of the Taco seasoning marinated cut up chicken and Hubby K steamed some bok choy and we called this dinner.
Brother A on the other hand had his half eaten burrito from lunch for his dinner.
Whole30 Day 5: sometimes when you don’t have the time to prepare food, a take out is not off limit as long you do your homework in advance so you know what to order or not.
How’s the summer at your place so far? If you have an AC, when do you use it?
I’m such a sissy (Hubby K detest this), the internal temperature only reached to 86Ā°F and yet I couldn’t resist the urge to turn on the AC cuz I can’t sleep well if the room feels stuffy and hot…can’t blame me, right?
Have a great night!

My fingers are still crossed for a job for you! š I can’t understand Paleo ranked so badly – you’re right, there’s lots of research supporting the unhealthiness of grains and PUFAs, and also there are other diets that cut out entire food groups, like veganism, just that those diets rather keep the unhealthy foods in and cut out the good ones. š
Thanks Kath! It’s definitely be a rough one for me, especially at this current economy situation, but I’ll try to keep up with a positive attitude.
