When I first started this blog, it was meant only for a food blog, but then after a while writing only about food bored me and I decided to be more of a personal blog.

And now I decided to share a little bit about my journey into a healthy and fit living lifestyle.

I was never an exerciser nor an active person. You could say I was that kid who just sat quietly in the corner instead of playing with the other kids.

Fast forward to end of 2009, I came across to Fitbomb.com where he documented his P90X journey. That inspired me to be active and started my very first online blog, which now becomes my online training log.
So that the beginning of my fitness journey by doing P90X at home.

Later of the year, I stumbled upon Zuzka Light (formerly a host at Bodyrock.tv and now ZuzkaLight.com)Β Her lean and muscular figure amazed me and this was the beginning of interest into strength training. But just like typical women, I still wasn’t quite convinced about heavy lifting and focused more on doing tons of cardio.

In late 2010/early 2011, I discovered Paleo/Primal diet. You could say I started to hear about it from Fitbomb.com. It intrigued me but I still wasn’t keen on consuming saturated fat. If you looked at my older posts on this blog, you will find most of my entries were full of whole grains, some animal protein, quite a bit of SOY and very minimal fat. Not to mention, I was sort of following Zuzka Light’s diet approach. Even worse, I was even considering going on vegetarian and even (gasp!) vegan! Until now I still couldn’t believe how I almost got into that bandwagon (THANK GOODNESS I didn’t!)

Side note: I don’t mean to bash anyone who is following vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. I basically just shared that vegetarian/vegan isn’t for me..AT ALL. Now back to the story!

Then I started to get into knowing a community that evolves around Zuzana and got invited into this Facebook group called WarriorZ (it’s a closed group so you need to be part of the group to see the content).
It is a fun group, full of people who are fitness enthusiasts and professionals. Then I got to know DebbyK and that’s when I started to view fitness and nutrition into a different level.

Around late 2012, Debby introduced me to Carb Nite® Solution which is basically a cyclic ketogenic diet protocol (CKD). Long story short, it’s a protocol of staying ultra low carb (ULC) for 5-7 days (under 30gr net carb – all from veggies, no sugar/starch) and splurge on starchy carbs on 7th day at dinner time. Here’s a blog post where I first started.

In addition, knowing Debby also taught me a lot in terms of working out, especially weight lifting. She also directed me to fitness professionals that we could trust: such as Marianne Kane, Bret Contreras, Eric Cressey just to name a few.

Not too long after I started my weight lifting, I joined a commercial gym and then a Kettlebell gym where I met Eric, an IKFF certified kettlebell trainer and I’ve been doing it ever since (Thanks to Jeff Sokol, whom I “met” at WarriorZ Facebook group for getting me interested in kettlebell). The year of 2013 was really my turning point of fitness and health journey.

Here’s a little recap of my 2013 journey.

With this blog, I want to share my lifestyle and journey to be healthy. And of course I’d share some of my recipes as well. My recipes are usually super simple and yet healthy at the same time.

And last but not least, whatever I wrote here are basically my personal opinion. No single diet plan/exercise plan will work for every single person. Everyone is different. Also I’m not an expert in nutrition nor fitness so please consult these matters to the experts. πŸ™‚

PS: Though I intend to keep this blog fun and positive, there are times that I’ll post some of my rants. I’m just a regular person who has ups and downs in her life. But that what makes our life interesting, right?

    Hi Jos!
    I’m a fellow bodyrocker and paleo eater, I found you through Zuzana’s website and started following your life through your blog!
    I’ve got a question though! I eat mostly paleo, but find it hard to be 100% compliant. I eat well most of the time, but especially since I still live at home, things don’t always work out. I’ll have some cheese or dried fruit now and then, because my family still eats normally. How bad is that? And sometimes I find myself gorging on nuts, eating way too much of them in one go. I want to do paleo 100% when I live on my own, which is in a few weeks! It’ll be hard to keep the budget low, as I’ll be a student and have little money, but I’m going to try the best I can.
    My real question is this, how can I get some accountability, so that I stick to this? I want to do at least the whole 30 days challenge, then see what the dairy actually does to me, and maybe even legumes. What do you suggest, maybe mail contact with a more experienced paleo eater to keep me on track?
    Thanks for any advice, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Jos,

    I’m a fellow Bodyrocker and book-marked your site a while back. I just had to write to tell you I am eating your Baked Coconut Chicken Fingers as I type and can’t believe how yummy they are! They turned out *perfect* – I don’t even want a sauce with them. Soooo good! Thank you!

    You’ve also inspired me to pick up some Avocado Oil (I already use Coconut oil all the time but though Avo was a little pricey).

    My diet is moving towards Paleo, still eat the occasional millet or quinoa, but seriously thinking of going all out Paleo.

    I’ve just started my little baby blog – it’s really just a zygote right now, but it’ll come! You’ve been a real inspiration and I look forward to trying more of your creations!

    And now, back to my yummy dinner… πŸ™‚

    Thank you for the inspiration! We all need it. Right?
    I have looked through your amazing presentation of your eats. Love it!
    I am definitely changing the way I am shopping for food now. WOW!. I love vegetables and fruits, and they are a big part of my diet, but OMG, how much effort goes into shopping in order to completely avoid processed foods.
    I am not a stranger to cooking at home, but convenience of frozen and processed stuff comes easy when pressed for time.
    Today I cooked chicken and veggies for lunch. No complex CARBS πŸ™‚ It made me feel satisfied for a quite long time. WIll have to plan my meals ahead of time for those days when I am out of house all day. .
    It is not easy to be a full time student with a full time job, but I am determined to (at least πŸ™‚ stick to Paleo principals. LOL!

    Hi Jos!

    How funny that you found me on chowstalker because I was eyeballing your pasta recipe! ;D I’ll definitely have to try spaghetti squash. We just recently discovered kelp noodles and it’s been amazing!

    I think it’s great that Fitbomb inspired you to do P90X. I actually hadn’t known he was doing that until it came up as a random topic of discussion over the dinner table at a family function one night. And it’s also good to know that I’ve got a fellow compatriot in the “skinny Asian girl” schtick! God that stuff gets old!

    Glad to hear you’re on the Paleo/Primal bandwagon too! I just recently started myself a little over a month ago and there’s definitely no going back! And you SHOULD make the pudding. It was really really good.

    And seriously, my Chinese is survival-based only. Only knowing how to order food ensures one’s survival in a foreign land, right? Heehee!

    This pilot study compares Paleo diet with the traditional diabetic diet. They found that Paleo improved diabetes and cardiovascular risk factors more than the diabetic diet…

    120 lbs is normal for a 5’4, isn’t it? I wouldn’t think that’s overweight at all…I have a friend who is 5’4 and 123 lbs, and she looks perfect, and nobody would even call her fat.

    It’s great that you want to be fit, but I’m a bit worried about the strict diet and daily exercise…just don’t overdo it, ok? That said, I hope you enjoy the best health ever, spiritually, mentally, and physically! πŸ™‚

      I concur. I am also 5’4 and my GOAL weight is 120 lbs. I’m not too far off, but I just have to say that it made me feel a little inferior when you said you were “overweight” at 120 lbs. Anyway, not to be a downer- I hope you meet your fitness goals! Stay healthy πŸ™‚

    Hi there! I stumbled upon your blog through Diana’s (mymarblerye). I noticed we have the same food favorites! Lots of greens, fish, chicken, beans, etc. I’m not much into beef or pork but I’ll eat it if it’s there. I like to cook more fish than anything though. It’s so light, healthy, and easy to cook! Can’t wait to read more of your posts! πŸ™‚

    Thanks for your comment. I checked out some of your meals–looks so colorful and tasty! I’m mostly a vegetarian (pescatarian, technically) so I eat a lot of the same things you do. My husband and I LOVE Larabars–so tasty and completely natural. I would love your recipe for the lentils & veggies with tofu–it looks amazing!!
