Airline Luggage Nightmare and Bad Science
Sorry for missing a post yesterday but I was super dead tired after I came back home (more story on this later) so I listened to my body and went to sleep instead, only to get up this morning from a very intense nightmare! I got a nightmare that I got a job that would pay me hourly and I would start to work on the coming week, only to find out that I was supposed to work on that weekend already and I was at some kind of party. Haha, could you imagine how panic I was in the dream and suddenly I woke up and realized it was just all a dream…but a very intense one too!
Anyway my eats yesterday were clean until dinner time. The story behind this was Hubby K’s cousin’s daughter, C was visiting the States from Hongkong for 1 month study in DC. Apparently, her study was over and she supposed to take a domestic flight connecting to an international flight on Monday night to go back to Hong Kong. Well, the domestic flight from DC to LA got 4 hours delay thus she had to reschedule her flight to Hong Kong on this coming Sunday. The fiasco? Since she arrived before the crack of the dawn in LA on Tuesday, she couldn’t get the luggage yet and figured Hubby K would take her back to LAX to pick them up. Long story short, we found out her luggage weren’t even here YET! WTH?! So we drove all the way to LAX and came back, without any luggage. Good thing she had some clothing in her carry-on. *sigh* Flying could be a nightmare.
So as you figured, I had my dinner at my in-laws’ place so for sure I was exposed to amount of vegetable oils, wheat contained soy sauce, sugar, MSG, and other preservative stuff from the frozen meatballs that they cooked their dishes with.
Actually I wasn’t thinking too much about it and besides it’s just once in a while thing and I haven’t showed up myself at my in-laws place for quite some time. And I was STARVING after all the walk at LAX from Terminal 4 to Terminal 7 back and forth!
While I was eating, I noticed my stomach started to feel hurt – not too much, more like it was twitching and some kind of sharp pain. It was on and off. I wasn’t sure if because my stomach became more sensitive now after squeaky clean Paleo eats for quite some time but then Hubby K reminded me not just draw a conclusion based on this observation. He told me that was one of AHS seminar talk about Bad Science by Tom Naughton. Apparently, it wasn’t as simple as A causes B, just like I couldn’t draw my conclusion my stomach hurt because I ate many non Paleo dishes at my in-laws place. It could be I was a bit too hungry prior thus stuffed myself a bit too fast or could be something else, right? If I’m TRULY getting a bit more sensitive with gluten (my first culprit), then my stomach should hurt as well after I inhaled that mini burger slider at Animal Restaurant last Saturday.
Have any of you fly recently? What kind of nightmare have you experienced so far, especially with domestic flights?
I know some of you are science geeks, so I’d like to hear about your thought regarding that bad science!

i def think it’s the gluten and/or sugar. honestly, the cleaner i eat the harder it becomes for me to eat ‘junk’ foods. as a scientist, there is a lot of bad science out there in peer reviewed journals. just because it’s peer reviewed doesn’t mean it’s quality material! everyone has their own agenda and if i can’t see how the data helps to support the story, then i don’t buy their argument! you have to really read everything with a critical eye!
Sorry for the airport drama, that’s the last thing you want to deal with when traveling. I’ve been lucky with my luggage…so far (knock on wood!).
